Verapamil is a phenylalkylamine calcium channel blocking compound, which inhibits the transmembrane influx of calcium ions into the cells. The inhibitory potential of verapamil halting the replication of many viruses such as influenza A, MARV, Ebola virus has been well documented. Verapamil also targets the Multidrug resistance-associated protein 1 (MRP1), which studies have shown, interacts with the SARS-CoV-2 Orf9c protein. Breaking this link can prove to be a successful therapeutic intervention against the SARSCOV2 virus. **
